Portugal international superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will miss his country's next FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture as a result of the suspension, it has been confirmed. Ronaldo picked up a yellow card that confirmed that he will be missed in his nation's next fixture and while it would be a loss for Portugal, Manchester United are the side that will be benefitting from the decision.
Ronaldo scored two goals deep in the closing stages of their last game against Northern Ireland to overturn a one-goal deficit and hand his side a much-needed win as a result. Having conceded in the first half of the fixture, Portugal needed a response and they did so in the second half courtesy of a brilliant showing by Ronaldo.
The former Juventus star scored his and Portugal's first goal of the match in the 88th minute to draw the match level before scoring the tie-breaker in the sixth minute of added time (90+6) to confirm that Portugal would be getting all the three points and to celebrate his goal, Ronaldo pulled off his shirt, a move that earned him a yellow card. He was only one booking away from being suspended and the yellow card meant that he will now be absent from their next Qualifying fixture.
On the other hand, his new club, Manchester United, which he re-joined this summer following his exit from Italian Serie A giants Juventus, will welcome the piece of news because it goes well in their favor. Ronaldo will have to self-isolate for five days upon his arrival in the UK and being that he will not be playing Portugal's next game, he could leave the camp earlier.
After traveling to England, he will be in isolation for five days after which he will resume training with his new teammates before being expected to make his second debut for the club next weekend.
