LA LIGA TEAMS CONTINUE TO DOMINATE EUROPE

Football clubs in Spain have continued their dominance in continental clashes in the last two decades.

Spanish sides boast of having more titles on the continent than any other country.

In the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and even the World Club Cup, La Liga sides rule. Even in individual awards like Ballon d’Or and the European Golden Boot, La Liga stars lead.

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Sevilla have been mentioned many more times than other top sides in continental tournaments as they deliver consistent performance year in, year out. Sevilla also renamed the Europa League when they won it three times in three years. Aside Chelsea and Manchester United now, no other side have won the Europa League in the last six years aside Spanish sides.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have nine Ballon d’Or titles between them – and this could be ten soon. La Liga players and achievements generally seem to be the norm and it does not look to change anytime soon.

The Premier League is a money spinner but they do not come close to their Spanish rival in terms of achievements, especially in the last decade. It doesn’t help that the best two players are domiciled in Spain.

Germany comes close in terms of achievements with mainly Bayern Munich leading the pack. If England does not regain its place, France and Italy are worthy rivals. European football has been quite interesting to watch as many sides compete for relevance but Spanish sides have never struggled to deliver regularly. They are just superior.
