Qatar says that the World Cup 2022 is likely to be a ‘completely normal’ event with the world finally getting to grips with the coronavirus pandemic thanks to the invention of vaccines. The pandemic, which began in January 2020, has brought the world to a halt with most normal activities being disrupted. Unsurprisingly, football has had to bear the brunt of the changes and many major tournaments like the Tokyo Olympics and European Championships had to be cancelled or postponed. The pandemic threatens to transform the World Cup 2022 into quite a different spectacle compared to what the world has experienced in previous years.

However, many pharmaceutical companies have been successful in creating vaccine for the coronavirus. As a result, it is believed that the pandemic will come to an end within the next few months. This is good news for Qatar, who have invested a lot of money into the World Cup by upgrading the infrastructure. The Chief Executive of the 2022 World Cup committee, Nasser Al-Khater, said that everyone is looking forward to hosting a normal World Cup. The qualification rounds for the competition have already been going under way and many teams will be learning about their path to the tournament when the qualification draw is made in Zurich.

“The introduction of the vaccine and the rollout of the vaccine, it’s definitely good news for everybody. Everybody’s looking forward to going back to some sort of normalcy in life and especially in sports as well.We’re very hopeful and very looking forward that, by 2022, hopefully things will really be back to complete normal and looking forward to hosting the fans and having a normal and successful World Cup. In the post-COVID pandemic era, we hope that sports will go back to normal as quickly as possible,” said Al-Khater.
