Harry Kane pleased with the expectations on the England national side
England international Harry Kane is pleased that the Three Lions are now expected to perform at a high level following their progress at the World Cup and the Nations League last year. The Three Lions grabbed the attention of the country’s faithful after reaching the last four of the 2018 World Cup and they have continued with the same momentum to seal their berth in the semi-final stage of the Nations League.
Speaking to reporters, Three Lions captain Kane said that he is pleased that the supporters expect them to do well on the big stage which was not the case before the World Cup in Russia. He added to highlight the team’s showing in the Nations League where they stand a good chance of securing their first silverware since the 1966 World Cup success.
He said: ““I think we feel that expectation where people now expect us to do well and I think before the World Cup there was no expectation. It is great that we have turned that around. I think we’ve handled it really well since the World Cup. I think we’re the only team who got into the semi-finals at the World Cup to have got through “their Nations League groups and we had probably one of the hardest groups.”
England had one of the toughest groups for the Nations League where they were pitted against Croatia and Spain. They found themselves five points behind Spain after the opening two matches but managed to make a strong comeback by winning their final two games while leapfrogging La Roja on the table.
As such, they have earned the right to compete for the maiden Nations League title and they are scheduled to face Netherlands at the semi-final stage in June. Should they come up triumphs, they could face either Portugal or Switzerland for the prize in Porto.
