Gernot Rohr states conditions for Victor Moses’ Nigeria comeback

Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr has said that Victor Moses has the opportunity to return to the national team fold ahead of the African Cup of Nations during the summer. The 28-year-old made the shock decision to retire from international football following the 2018 World Cup as he wanted to spend more time with his family while concentrating on the proceedings at Chelsea.

However, he has since experienced a forgettable period after struggling for game time under Maurizio Sarri and this has strongly linked him with a move to Fenerbahce before the winter transfer deadline. Speaking to reporters, Rohr hailed the qualities of the former Wigan Athletic man and said that the attacker is welcome to return to the international fold.

But, “he added that the wide player can’t take the national team duties for granted and he would need to work for the position while ensuring that he has the motivation to contribute towards the Super Eagles“’ success, he said: “Victor Moses is a player with lots of qualities. His pacey moves on the flanks give the team a lot of options to attack opponents but the premature retirement changed a lot of things and during the last AFCON qualifying matches, we have adjusted with the players we have.If he wants to come back, it's an advantage to the team only if he can attain the standard he puts up in the last instalment with the team. He must show lots of motivation, he must show that he is fit to “play for the team“ because we have other players playing well in his position now.”

Moses has barely featured for the Blues during the ongoing campaign and this has resulted from the fact that manager Maurizio Sarri has reverted to the traditional four-man defence, which does not facilitate the need for wing-backs. As such, he has been restricted to just two appearances off the bench in the Premier League and he appears primed to join Fenerbahce on loan before the end of the month.
