Bosque Set To Name Final Squad

Spain manager Vicente del Bosque is set to name his final 23 man squad shortly and he has said ahead of this occasion that it is difficult to pick every deserving player into the squad. Vicente del Bosque has an embarrassment of riches especially in the midfield position. As result, some important names are expected to miss out on the World Cup 2014. Due to this strength in depth, the former Real Madrid boss says that it was not possible to include many of the deserving players into the squad. Some of the high-profile names that will be absent from the World Cup 2014 include Real Madrid stars Isco and Alvaro Arbeloa.

Napoli striker Jose Callejon will also miss the World Cup despite Spain not having much quality strikers upfront. As a result, they had to draft in Brazil born Diego Costa as the replacement for the likes of David Villa. The poor form of strikers like Fernando Torres means that Costa is expected to start every match of the World Cup 2014, for which Spain come into the tournament as one of the favourites. Spain also come into the tournament looking to defend the title that they won in South Africa last time around.

Spain’s first match of the tournament will be against Netherlands. "Do you really think it hasn't upset me to have had to leave people out? It's impossible to put everyone on the list who deserves it. I won't give explanations about the players I didn't include, that would be a mistake. Callejon is one of the players we talked about. We always keep up to date with what he is doing, especially as Rafa Benitez is there. For us it is a daily thing," said the manager. Spain only have a few friendly matches left.
