Atletico Madrid’s Troubles Motivating, Says Manager David Simeone

Diego Simeone says that he is left inspired by the difficult season he is encountering at Atletico Madrid.

The former player took over the club as the manager in 2011 and has inspired them to incredible successes. After having won the league title and reached the Champions League final twice, he is probably regarded as one of the greatest managers the club has had in the last few decades. However, there have recently been signs of uncertainty with regards to his future at the club. He recently downgraded the length of his contract much to the surprise of the fans.

There has been constant speculation that he might head over to Italian football or the Premier League with a number of clubs interested. Simeone was speaking after his team managed a 1-0 win over Las Palmas in the latest league match. Saul scored the only goal of the game just before the hour to decide the contest.

The victory helped Atletico Madrid remain in touch with the likes of Real Sociedad and Villarreal, who are now the latest contenders to aim for a top four place. Atletico’s title hopes have completely been destroyed the season, and the club are left only to fight for the top four.

Still, the challenges faced by the club this season how motivated him a lot according to the Argentine. “We need to improve. We don't have the consistency we had wanted to have in La Liga but this drives me.When faced by adversity, I feel much more involved, more in my habitat. I love challenges. What matters is today. Destiny is what we want to make of it, with work, with perseverance and with an incredible willpower. We need to continue to improve and compete and after five years in the same club, it's not easy,” said Simeone.
