JulenLopetegui’s reign in charge of Spain kicked off in sublime force

JulenLopetegui’s first competitive match as the head coach of the Spanish national side concluded with them snatching a dominating 8-0 triumph over Liechtenstein.

This match was played on September 5 at the Municipal Reino de Leon Stadium. It was the first 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification match for both Spain and Liechtenstein. Even though Spain was the clear favorites of coming out on top with the victory, it wasn’t really expected to see them winning by such a large margin.

Goals from: Diego Costa, Sergi Roberto, David Silva, Vitolo and Alvaro Morata saw the Spanish side claiming a convincing triumph.

When the match reached its end, the recently appointed manager of Spain JulenLopetegui voiced his happiness in winning his first competitive match as he said: “We reaped our rewards in the second-half for what we did right in the first-half. I am happy. They are the first three points and it was important to start well.”

This 8-0 triumph over Liechtenstein is the perfect start for JulenLopetegui as this was his first competitive match as the head coach of Spain and his task is to transform the national side into the titans that they were some time ago.

Spain has recently been disappointing as their latest results in international competitions has seen them losing in the early stages and being knocked out surprisingly fast. This is what happened to the Spanish national side during their campaign in the 2014 FIFA World Cup where they failed to make it past the group stages and during the 2016 UEFA Euro’s, they could only reach the round of 16.

JulenLopetegui is hoping that his squad can continue picking up victories and eventually qualify for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup. Spain’s next competitive match is scheduled to take place on October 6 as they face off with Italy.
