Jose Mourinho claims Huge Mistakes made by England and Spain Bosses

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that both England manager Roy Hodgson and Spain boos Vicente del Bosque committed huge mistakes at the World Cup 2014.

England and Spain endured very disappointing World Cup’s after they were knocked out at the group stages. England have not failed to get past quarter-finals of recent major tournaments, but they were expected to at least reach the knockout stages. Spain, on the other hand, were expected to go until the final stages of the tournament as the defending champions. Yet, it was surprising to see both these strong European teams suffer embarrassing exits.

Mourinho was involved at the World Cup 2014 as the ambassador for Yahoo. Even though it has been a few months since the tournament ended, the Portuguese has voiced his opinions at the mistakes made by Hodgson anddel Bosque.

One of the criticisms that Mourinho had of Spain was that del Bosque did not try to fit the two strikers – Diego Costa and Fernando Torres – into the same team when they were trying to chase the game. Mourinho says that it would have given Spain and great chance of winning even if it meant going against their philosophy. The lack of a plan B cost them the tournament according to Mourinho.

“They [Spain] are losing — so Diego Costa out, Fernando Torres in. Why? Play them together. You need to change. They will say, ‘Ah, but Spain has its own system, its own philosophy’ — hell, if it is not working, you change. They [England]made two changes at 1-0 down. But when Roy Hodgson made these changes — Sterling out, Barkley in, then Lallana in for Welbeck — I couldn’t see a strategic change. Same tactical model, same system. They are losing and, if they lose, they are out of the tournament, so they have to score,” said Mourinho.
